Magical Creature Edict

The Magical Creature Edict was a decree issued by "The Gods" (Toan), primarilly to encourage the population replenishment of creatures with high magic levels on Relune.

Changes include:

Modifications to the digestive system to allow more efficient use of food. The new process leaves very little to no waste. The same amount of food is consumed, the body using about what it did before for basic function. The extra energy gained is used to both break down new waste and to replenish personal magic and energy stores at an increased pace. Whatever that overflows from these stores enters the flow to increase the planets base magic supply, in turn providing more magic to support newly born magical creatures. The body still has the ability to excrete waste, as this may be needed if poisoned or ill, or eating/drinking more than the body can handle at a time. Mostly, this manifests with the consumption of too much alchohol.

Sexual modifications to encourage fornication. This includes the addition of lubrication for the anal passage and the ability to conceive through it for both sexes. The pleasure gained through sexual activity was also increased. To combat potential problems such as breeding of slaves and the harvesting spell components, both partners must want a child in order to conceive. Same sex couples must pray to the gods in order to become pregnant. Males are provided with a womb and, further in the pregnancy, a horizontal slit just above the pelvic bone for the child to be born. They are also given small breasts. Men that can afford it often have them removed and use other means to feed the child.

Gestation periods have been shortened, For women, this is has become (+/-) 25.7% of the time it used to take. For elven women, this shortened the time from 24 months to about 9 months. For men, this is 20% of the normal time (6 months for elven men) and is incredibly painful towards the end as their bodies are not built to carry a child. Babies born to men are smaller, though not born premature. They grow at a faster pace out of the womb to make up for it and are about the same size as normal babies at 4 months old.

For same sex couples, medically, the one who is pregnant is called the carrier, where the other is called the partner. Often times the parents are reffered to as mother and father, but that is a personal matter and dealt with on an individual basis.

Those couples that have not been involved in a childcare situation need some experience before being granted a child by the gods. Many orphanages have closed because of this.
